Match Reports -
Fixture: Leam D v Godiva - Date: Thursday 19th January - Final score; 29/20 to Leam
It was a wet and windy night for this replay match. The D team started slowly and were caught out by 4 quick goals by Godiva who took possession from the first whistle. The D's kept calm but were always one of two goals behind and ended the first half 7/6 to Godiva. Sarah Hazel at GK kept Leamington in the game by making some key tips and interceptions from a tall and accurate Godiva GS. Carolyn Quinney at C controlled the play in centre court and Emma Welford at WA closed down many of the Godiva attacks. After half time the D's came out with more determination and Kate Stenger GA and Izzy Lewis converted many of Leamington's chances to put them ahead by one goal at 3/4 time. In the last 15 minutes Leamington could do no wrong and Karen Quinn at WD made sure Godiva could only convert 4 more goals whereas Leamington notched up another 12 goals in the last quarter.
Well deserved player of the match Sarah Hazel. Many thanks to Tina for coaching and Barbara for umpiring.
Fixture; Leam D v Griff and Coton - Date; 21/1/12 - Final score; 23/27 to Griff
Leamington D's started positively and knew this was going to be a tight match as the first leg ended with Griff winning by one jammy goal. Once again Leamington stared slowly and allowed Griff to get ahead by 3 goals at the end of the first quarter but with tight defending by Carolyn Quinney at WD and Karen Quinn at GK Leamington managed to stay in the game at half time coming back to draw 14 goals all. The second half was full of chances by the Leam attack but the shooters weren't on form and many chances weren't converted. Emily Saunders at C/WA covered the court and played both defensively and attacked in equal measure. Griff's shooters were on form throughout and they managed to pull away in the last quarter to finish the game winners by 23/27. Well deserved player of the match Emily Saunders. Thanks to Kelly and Barbara for braving the wind and coming to support.
Fixture - Leamington D v Leamington C, Final score 43 v 32 to the C team.
This fixture is always a difficult fixture but it was great to take the court on such a bright, clear, sunny day and the mood on court reflected this. Unfortunately Grace Lambert had to go off after only 2 minutes with an ankle injury but this disruption didn't cause any problems for the C's as Jenni Cross filled in at WA. The scores maintained a level pattern with the C's always being a few goals ahead although the D's managed to get within 2 at half time. Consistently accurate shooting by the C team didn't allow the D's any chance of rebounds although Sarah took some great tips off the back line. The conversion rate by Sarah Steele and Jenni Roberts was extremely high and kept the C team ahead all match. At the opposite end the c team defence proved difficult to break down and tight marking on the D teams Paula Crick and Izzy Lewis made them work hard all match, however both showed determination to keep going. Final score 43 v 32 to the C team.
Saturday 19thNovember, played date: 15thNovember; 24 Henley C 22 Leam D
For the second time in 4 days Leamington D team took on a team at the top of the league but happily this fixture was the polar opposite performance of last Saturdays.Leamingtontook the court with a quiet determination and despite the cold came out confidently and matchedHenleygoal for goal in the first quarter. Sarah Hazel at GK did an amazing job throughout the 60 mins against an accurate Henley GS and was ably supported by Emily Saunders in a new position of WD. But this was a great team effort as the shooting combinations of Kate Stenger, Izzy Lewis and Paula Crick kept the goals coming to finish the first half all square at 18 goals each.Henleymust have been taken by surprise at the tenacity of thisLeamingtonteam as they had to resort to a physical game in the circle, their frustrations were also taken out on the umpire who had to stop the game at one point.
Throughout the game this evenly fought match went goal for goal. The Leamingtoncentre court players Carolyn Quinney and Emma Welford battled at both attack and defence in equal measure and took plenty of interceptions or forced errors fromHenley. It was a huge disappointment to everyone that the final score was 24/22 toHenleybut a great fight and look forward to the rematch. Well deserved player of the match was Carolyn Quinney and many thanks to Jan for umpiring, Tina for coaching and supporters for coming out on such a cold evening.
Venue; Caludon Castle school Ernesford B v Leam D
Final score; Ernesford 42 Leam 23
This was always going to be a difficult match against the top of the league Ernesford B team butLeamingtonwent out with confidence and managed to stay within a goal or two for the first quarter. A slippy court didn't help butLeamington's woeful performance in the second quarter was probably their worst this season as they only managed to score one goal in fifteen minutes.Leamington's defence tried hard with Emma Welford at WD and Karen Quinn at GK but Ernesfords defence were gifted some interceptions byLeamingtonand they didn't miss many of their chances at goal. The Leam shooters struggled to convert their chances and so the final score at half time was 26/6. Another change at half time put Kate Stenger in as GA and with Paula Crick the shooting team kept hopes alive as Leam scored a decent 9 goals in the third quarter but it wasn't until the final 15 mins thatLeamingtonlooked like threatening the score line with some big numbers. Another team change and Carolyn Quinney C and Emily Saunders at WD helped the attack and with a tighter defenceLeamingtonwon the quarter and 10 goals were added to their tally to finish a disappointing 42/23 to Ernesford.
Venue; Copsewood, Date;5thNovember 2011, Final Score; Copsewood 37 Leam D 43
Leamington D have waited all season for a win and it eventually came on Saturday with a well deserved win away at Copeswood. With yet another combination of players Leamington started slowly and had to defend many Copsewood attacks but Karen Quinn at WD and a brilliant performance by Sarah Riley at GK prevented Copeswood from converting many goals and kept Leamington in contention, although Copsewood managed to pull away to lead the first quarter 12/8.Emma Welfordtook the court for the first time this season at WD and with Carolyn Quinney at C helped concentrate the effort in the centre court.
At half time the D's had caught up to within one goal and with another change took the court with renewed focus. Paula Crick at GA worked solidly for the whole hour despite a strong Copsewood defence and converted most of her chances at goal. Some great feeds fromKate Stengerat WA allowed Izzy Lewis to continue the onslaught andLeamingtonpulled ahead in the third quarter. Another team change sawKate Stengerpartner Paula Crick in the circle and this final change allowedLeamingtonto score another 15 goals in fifteen minutes, Player of the match wasKate Stenger. Well done everyone - great team effort and look forward to playing top of the league Ernesford next week.
Final score; 29 leam v 35 hinckley, Date of fixture; 15th oct
A quickly put together team took the court for this division two match at Leamington and the home team started brightly with a 4 goal lead within the first 4 minutes. Unfortunately this would be the only time the D team would be in the lead in this game as Hinckley stepped up a gear and converted every opportunity. Leamington defence was made up of several E team players who all stepped up to the mark including a recent come back by Chris Heydon which was great to see. Jenni David and Lou at GK maintained a strong defence with some great tips off the back line. Carolyn Quinney C and Libby Comyn WA fed some lovely balls into Izzy Lewis GS who was on great form and against a stong, tall Hinckley defence both attackers did extremely well. Clare Starkey and Becky Newby did a great job as subs for the attack and kept the D in contention through out the 60 minutes but some silly mistakes and solid defending from Hinckley allowed them to pull away and win by 6 goals. Izzy was well deserved player of the match.
