Match Report
Leamington C v Ernsford D 10/12/11
Final score; 30-29
A cold, icy afternoon saw Leamington C fired up against Ernsford D who currently sit above them in Division 2. Leamington got off to a punchy start and were 10-6 up at the first quarter. However, Ernsford being a strong and well practiced side began to feed better into their shooters, hone down in defence and crept back, making the half time score 21-24 to Ernsford. The third quarter went in favour of Ernsford too, as Leamington made some simple mistakes, despite excellent shooting from Jenni Roberts and Sarah Steel. Sarah unfortunately came off with injury in the 4th quarter so captain Jenny Cross took the helm and with a huge last effort from all of the players, Jenny and Jenni managed to reverse the scores to a nail-biting finish, leaving Leamington thrilled at their 30-29 victory. The low scoring game reflects what a stirling job Sarah, Tasha and Grace did in defence and were consistent throughout. We'd like to thank Jan and all those who braved it to come and support. Player of the match; Amy Chubb (C)
Vs Hinckley
With a strong start to the first quarter it looked to be a good match for the C's and within the first few minutes it was 3-0 to us, we worked the ball up the court perfectly despite it being windy and Steel's and Cross' shots were successful. In defence we turned over the ball with some brilliant interceptions from Sullivan and Iredale resulting in us leaving the court after the first quarter in the lead. With Chubbs coming on for Lambert at WD to play against the some-what 'aggressive' WA the second quarter began, and again with all areas of the court performing excellently we managed to sustain the lead, and although a very low scoring quarter we finished in the lead with 13-8. With Roberts earning a well earned rest the third quarter began, after having to call time because of a blood injury Hinkley began to get the better of us and by the end of this quarter they managed to take over leaving the score at 17-14 to them. With Lambert off for the fourth quarter and Jenkinson at WD we all tried our hardest to get back to the standard of play which we had shown throughout the game but sadly after some unlucky umpiring decisions the game ended with Hinkley scoring 23 and Leamington 20. It was a very close game but we played excellently showing real team spirit and encouragement and with many fantastic shots Steel got given a well deserved player of the match.
Griff & Coton Vs Leamington C
Griff & Coton won the toss and therefore started what was going to be a very close match. During the first quarter no matter how much the defence and the attack tried to overturn Griff & Coton's centres especially by the pressure from WD Rachel and GD Natasha, it ended up as a very close quarter having either team scoring on most of their own centres. During the second quarter, we started to get into the swing of our game slowing our passing down the court and finishing with some excellent goals shot by GA Rachel and GS Sarah Steel. Also, after some brilliant interceptions from GK Sarah and WD Grace, Leamington were able to creep ahead finishing the quarter with a few safe goals in front. During the third quarter even after some unforced errors occurring down the court, Leamington still kept their structure keeping the scores at a similar level. In the last quarter, after the changes within the circle started settling and our confidence was lifted the work around the circle edge by WA Jenny Roberts and C Amy worked very well, and also within the circle by GA Sarah Steel and GS Jenny Cross. In the end Leamington broke away from the close score in the previous quarters to a well-deserved 33-24 to us.
Alvis V Leamington C - Home, Saturday 13th November
Alvis won the toss and started with first centre pass which began a quarter of fairly even footing. The first ten minutes saw the score line increase goal for goal ending the first quarter on a fairly close 16-10 to Leamington. The second quarter saw Leamington get into the swing of things with some good interceptions in defence from GK Iredale and GD Sullivan. The third quarter involved some great work down the court and excellent passes into the circle from Chubb at Centre and Jenkinson at WA. With brilliant work around the circle and on target shooting from Cross and Steel the goal difference increased dramatically to end the third quarter 51-25 to Leamington. Lambert at WD kept applying pressure in defence keeping Alvis' goal scoring to a minimum ending the game with a fantastic 69-32 win to Leamington. Steel played well throughout the match as both GA and GS resulting in her being awarded player of the game.
